Job Title: Firefighter/EMT

NWCFD is conducting a hiring process to fill current openings and newly budgeted positions for 2025.
NWCFD provides fire and EMS services for the City of De Soto, Lexington Township, and parts of Olathe Township. Three fire stations protect approximately 10,000 residents in 70 square miles. Panasonic Energy will open one of the world's largest electric vehicle battery factories in De Soto in 2025. In addition to this and other anticipated growth, the District continues to hire for new positions.
Firefighters perform duties related to fire prevention, suppression, hazardous material incidents, emergency rescue, basic life support, and first aid under emergency conditions frequently involving considerable danger. Employees in this classification work under the direct supervision of a company officer.
NWCFD offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance plans (covering over 90% of the individual employee’s healthcare premiums; 60% of qualified dependent’s medical premiums), a health reimbursement account (HRA), a Kansas Police and Fire (KP&F) defined-benefit Retirement System, eligibility to voluntarily participate in the supplemental State of Kansas KPERS 457 deferred compensation plan, tuition reimbursement, paid holidays, and paid leave time. Firefighters work a modified Berkeley shift schedule of alternating days of 24 hours on-duty and 24 hours off-duty for three shift days over five days, followed by four days off. Firefighters are compensated with an overtime rate following the FLSA Section 7(k) exemption.
$52,592 Annual Starting Earnings (Base; Excluding Overtime & Benefits Package)

Experience pay will be considered for qualified candidates with previous full-time fire service experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and meet the eligibility requirements of the insurance carrier.

High School Diploma or equivalent.

IFSAC or Pro Board Firefighter I certification.
We will consider candidates currently enrolled in a program that, upon completion of the course, offers IFSAC certification testing. The IFSAC or Pro Board certification must be obtained within six months of being hired. $47,810 starting annual earnings for these employees until certified.

Current Kansas or National EMT certification.
We will consider candidates with a current Kansas or National EMR certification or who are currently enrolled in an EMT program. The application packet must include copies of certifications or enrollment forms. These employees' starting annual earnings are $47,810 until certified. Regardless, all candidates must obtain Kansas EMT certification within one year of being hired.

Current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification OR ability to complete in-house physical agility testing.

The ability to pass a post-offer physical, drug screen, and background investigation.
